Reports to: Safety, Security & Risk Manager
Status/FLSA: Full-time/Exempt Salary Range: $55,000-$65,000

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION:
· Ensures the physical security of Chatham Area Transit facilities, services, employees, and customers while demonstrating professionalism and sound judgment in all interactions.
· Works to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies while upholding integrity and ethical standards in all security-related practices and reporting.
· Acts as the primary liaison with CAT’s security contractor, fostering teamwork, accountability, and performance excellence in all contracted services.
· Develops and maintains partnerships with law enforcement, the homeless authority, and community stakeholders, approaching all interactions with fairness, compassion, and respect for diverse populations.
· Monitors performance of contracted security personnel and addresses concerns using fair, consistent, and objective evaluation practices.
· Maintains all security records and reports with accuracy, transparency, and integrity, ensuring proper documentation standards are met.
· Promotes the Agency Safety Plan by reinforcing a culture of shared responsibility, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
· Assists contractor with training new security personnel, and acts as the primary facilitator for security-related training for personnel in other departments as delegated by the Safety, Security & Risk Manager.
· Conducts monthly assessments of facility security, and submits recommendations for any necessary improvements to the Safety, Security & Risk Manager.
· Works as necessary on special projects concerning the security of CAT’s employees, facilities, customers, operations, or data, including assessing unmet needs, developing solutions, soliciting quotes or estimates from vendors, and ensuring full implementation of solutions.
· Maintains awareness of contract security scheduling and personnel assignment in order to minimize unnecessary costs and ensure full coverage.
· Acts as a resource to the security contractor on the Authority’s services and policies, and acts as a resource to other departments on security matters.
· Promotes the Agency Safety Plan throughout the organization by working to ensure compliance, mitigate risk, and promote best practices and a healthy risk and safety culture.
· Works with the Safety, Security & Risk Manager to ensure a holistic approach to safety, security and risk management throughout the organization.
· Supports the Department by assisting with other work when necessary.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A bachelor’s degree and two or more years of relevant experience, or any combination of education and experience totaling six years, is required. Relevant experience may include security management, public safety, emergency management, compliance, community relations, or other work experience demonstrating the skills necessary to perform the job duties.
Experience supervising the performance of contractors is highly desirable, as is experience with security training and homeless outreach. Other relevant experience, in addition to the minimum requirements, may be beneficial, such as direct experience with public transit. A CPP or other relevant certification, as well as training from DHS, TSA, or FEMA, may be considered favorably as well.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to monitor the performance of a security contract for a complex and geographically distributed operation that is open to the public, as well as the ability to collate and interpret data to provide concise recommendations to leadership. Attention to detail is essential.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

· Ability to learn and apply CAT policies and procedures consistently and prudently.
· Proficiency with de-escalation and conflict management techniques.
· Proficiency in using computers.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
· Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
· Ability to sit and stand for extended periods, walk, run, reach and grasp with hands, lift up to 20 pounds, and operate technology such as radios, computers, phones, and tablets.
· Ability to maintain thorough documentation and write clear, concise reports.
· Ability to work with data and generate basic graphics, such as charts and graphs, using Excel.
· Ability to effectively advocate for CAT’s interests to third parties, including law enforcement, courts, contractors, members of the public, and any other parties.
· Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality of all matters pertaining to security, including documents classified as Security Sensitive Information.
· Ability to perform job duties efficiently and calmly under pressure.
· Ability to deliver excellent customer service and address members of the public with sensitivity and patience.
· Ability to uphold and promote CAT Security core values of professionalism, teamwork, integrity, fairness, and compassion.
· Flexibility to workdays, nights, weekends, or holidays according to need. May occasionally be required to work longer hours during special events or in other situations which demand greater security presence. Along with the department manager, required to maintain 24/7 on-call availability to respond to emergencies.
· Ability to work successfully with different personality types.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: An offer of employment will be conditional on the results of a background check, motor vehicle record review, and pre-employment drug screen. This position requires a valid driver’s license. This position is subject to non-DOT drug and alcohol testing in accordance with CAT’s Substance Abuse Policy.
